J R - Training completed with ESF Construction Skills project

J R - Training completed with ESF Construction Skills project - in partnership with Hampshire County Council for the CSCS course at Guildford College. In December, Julian, a 21-year-old job seeker with a history of ADD, anxiety, and depression since 2011 and limited work experience, was referred to the Epsom & Ewell Hub (EE hub) by his work coach at the Epsom JCP. After exploring his current situation and career aspirations, the EE hub connected him with a wellbeing practitioner from the Primary Care Network and began supporting him to define his career goals. Julian decided to pursue a career in the construction industry and was enrolled in a two-week CSCS course at Guildford College.

Despite the encouragement and support from the EE hub, Julian stopped communicating just before the course and did not reply to messages. However, he ended up attending the course, passing his H&S exam, and was booked in for the second part CITB test. Although he enjoyed the course, he fell short of passing the second exam by a few marks, but is now revising and awaiting a date to retake it. All involved agencies will help him to find a role either in his family business or elsewhere. This case highlights the importance of tailored interventions to meet the needs of job seekers, as well as the power of perseverance, trust in someone's potential, and the ability to change.
